DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
=======================
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
using it, you are expected to register. Individual programs
differ on details--some request registration while others require
it; some specify a maximum trial period. With registration, you
get anything from the simple right to continue using the software
to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software,
and the copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific
exceptions as stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished
programmers, just like commercial authors, and the programs are
of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are good programs
and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy
and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to a
specific group. For example, some authors require written
permission before a commercial disk vendor may copy their
Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You
should find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,
whether it's commercial or Shareware. The Shareware system makes
fitting your needs easier, because you can try before you buy.
And because the overhead is low, prices are low also. Shareware
has the ultimate money-back guarantee--if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.
DISCLAIMER-AGREEMENT
--------------------
Users of The Letterhead Kit must accept this disclaimer of
warranty: "THE LETTERHEAD KIT IS SUPPLIED AS IS. THE AUTHOR
DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING,
WITHOUT LIMITATION, THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND OF
FITNESS FOR ANY PURPOSE. THE AUTHOR ASSUMES NO LIABILITY FOR
DAMAGES, DIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL, WHICH MAY RESULT FROM THE USE
OF THE LETTERHEAD KIT."
The Letterhead Kit is a "shareware program" and is provided at no
charge to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with
your friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part
of another system. The essence of "user-supported" software is to
provide personal computer users with quality software without
high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
continue to develop new products. If you find this program useful
and find that you are using The Letterhead Kit and continue to
All Rights Reserved (C) Copyright 1992 Jerry Stern
L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( Windows ) V. 2.1 4
use The Letterhead Kit after a reasonable trial period, you must
make a registration payment of $10. to Science Translations. The
$10. registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like
a book. An example is that this software may be used by any
number of people and may be freely moved from one computer
location to another, so long as there is no possibility of it
being used at one location while it's being used at another, just
as a book cannot be read by two different persons at the same
time.
Commercial users of The Letterhead Kit must register and pay for
their copies of The Letterhead Kit within 30 days of first use or
their license is withdrawn. Site-License arrangements may be made
by contacting Science Translations.
Anyone distributing The Letterhead Kit for any kind of
remuneration must first contact Science Translations at the
address below for authorization. This authorization will be
automatically granted to distributors recognized by the ASP as
adhering to its guidelines for shareware distributors, and such
distributors may begin offering The Letterhead Kit immediately.
(However, Science Translations must still be advised so that the
distributor can be kept up-to-date with the latest version of The
Letterhead Kit.)
You are encouraged to pass a copy of The Letterhead Kit along to
your friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register
their copy if they find that they can use it. All registered
users will receive a copy of the latest version of The Letterhead
Kit system, including the current version on disk, a bonus disk
of letterhead samples, and a reference card of all the message
graphics.
Registrations, Site Licenses, and Permission to distribute are
available from: Jerry Stern, Science Translations, P. O. Box
20234, Baltimore, MD 21284-0234, Phone and FAX 410-661-2224. Site
license information is in the file PRODUCTS.DOC.

INSTALLATION
============
If you are reading these files on screen, you may print them with
the PRINTMAN.BAT batch file. (Don't print them from WordPerfect--
they are formatted with page breaks for printing from DOS.) You
do not need to exit Windows--from the Windows Program Manager,
choose File, and then Run. Type each command as it appears below,
and press (Enter). An easier way to run the PRINTMAN and SETUP
batch files is to go to DOS by double-clicking on the MS-DOS
prompt icon, usually installed in the Accessories group. (Type
EXIT when ready to return to Windows.)
From the DOS prompt, log to the directory holding The Letterhead
Kit distribution files. Start the PRINTMAN file by typing it like
this:
printman lpt1 (where lpt1 is the name of your printer
--change it as needed for your system.)
INSTALLING THE FILES
--------------------
Before installing the letterhead files, make a backup copy of the
distribution disk, and store the original disk in a safe place,
preferably in a different location than the backup copy of the
disk. Install the files from the backup disk, not the original.
The Letterhead Kit must be installed on your hard drive to be
used. The SETUP batch file will create a directory for the files
needed by The Letterhead Kit. If you plan to also use the DOS
version of The Letterhead Kit 2.0, it is STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
that you use the directory `c:\ltrhead' for these files. Unlike
previous versions of The Letterhead Kit, the forms and graphics
used by the package may be in any directory, and the SETUP batch
file will copy them to any location you wish.
You must tell the SETUP batch file what directory is being used
to hold your WordPerfect for Windows macros. If you don't know
where WP/Win keeps your macros, look in the File menu, choose
Preferences, choose Location of Files, write down the entry under
Macros/Keyboards/Button Bars, and click on Cancel to exit the
Preferences box.
To install The Letterhead Kit macros, run the batch file
SETUP.BAT from the DOS prompt while logged to The Letterhead Kit
distribution disk or directory. Type:
setup c:\ltrhead c:\wpwin\macros
(where c:\wpwin\macros is the location used by WordPerfect to
hold its macros.)
All Rights Reserved (C) Copyright 1992 Jerry Stern
L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( Windows ) V. 2.1 8
Or type:
setup d:\ltrhead d:\wpwin\wcm
(where d:\wpwin\wcm is the location used by WordPerfect to hold
its macros.)
The setup batch file does three things: 1) It will create a
directory for your letterhead forms and message graphics. 2) It
will copy the macros and button bar to the directory you identify
as the WP/WIN macro directory. 3) It will create a configuration
file, called LTRHEAD.CFG, in your WP/WIN macro directory. The
Letterhead Kit macros need this file to identify where your forms
and graphic messages are kept. Once SETUP finishes copying files,
you are ready to start using The Letterhead Kit.
If you need to move your letterheads, forms, and message
graphics, you may locate them in any directory you wish, but you
must edit the LTRHEAD.CFG file manually, or run SETUP again to
re-install the files in their new location, and create a new
configuration file. The configuration file should be an ASCII
text file, containing only the drive letter and path of the
directory holding the letterhead files.
FILE SHARING BETWEEN DOS AND WINDOWS
------------------------------------
If you also use The Letterhead Kit DOS version 2.0, the packages
will share the c:\ltrhead directory, and use the same graphics
and forms, except for the main letterhead forms, LETTER-W.FRM and
LETTER-D.FRM. Because sharing the same file between the DOS and
Windows versions of WP will usually cause reformatting and font
changes, The Letterhead Kits use different letterhead forms. The
two forms, as shipped, are different but interchangeable.
Once you have created your own custom letterhead, save it as
LETTER-W.FRM from WP/Win, retrieve it into the DOS version of WP,
make any font changes needed, and save it as LETTER-D.FRM. Both
files should be in the same directory as the other forms and
graphics files.
IMPORTANT: WordPerfect for Windows cannot handle some
rotated images. Two of the graphics shipped with versions
1.0 and 2.0 of The Letterhead Kit/DOS will not display or
print properly if used with Windows. (PRIORITY.WPG and
RUSH1.WPG will partially blank out.) The versions of these
files in this package will work properly with both packages.
When installing both packages, install the DOS version
first, and then the Windows version, and the newer versions
will be placed in your letterhead directory for sharing.

L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( Windows ) V. 2.1 9
SAVING HARD DRIVE SPACE
-----------------------
The new directory will need slightly less than 360K of hard disk
space for the entire package, and after you have customized your
letterhead you may delete the files with LET, NOW, DIZ, BAT, and
DOC extensions. The macros and button bar must remain in the
WP/Win macro directory, but the duplicate copies in the
C:\LTRHEAD directory may be deleted (extensions WCM and WWB).
Only the FRM and WPG files must remain in C:\LTRHEAD, and will
use about 110K.
INTERNATIONAL USERS
-------------------
WordPerfect Corporation's current method of making WP/WIN macros
compatible across language editions and modules is to provide the
file WP{WP}US.WCD with every language version of WordPerfect for
Windows. You will also have a second version of the WCD file,
such as WP{WP}UK.WCD. If you make changes in any macro in the
Letterhead Kit for Windows, you will need the US version
installed when you compile (first run) the edited macros. DO NOT
change the name of the WCD file in the Application statement in
these macros--if you do, you will have to translate every line of
the macro to match your language module. According to WP Corp.,
US English macros are NOT identical to UK, Canadian, or
Australian English macros.

INTRODUCTION & QUICK START
==========================
WordPerfect 5.1 for Windows can create letterheads, invoices, and
fax transmittal forms that look professionally printed. The table
feature creates the boxes within the fax and invoice forms, and
large print can be used in letterheads, even on printers without
large fonts, by creating the large text with either the Equation
Editor or with DrawPerfect. Users of Windows 3.1 can use TrueType
scalable fonts for large type, and upgrading to Windows 3.1 is
highly recommended for both the typeface enhancements and the
improvements in speed and reliability. The macros, templates, and
button bar in this guide will allow you to create fax transmittal
forms on your new letterhead, to prompt your clients for quick
payments, to guide shippers with delivery instructions, and to
guide your office staff with informational messages.
To get started quickly, follow these steps:
1) Copy the files to your hard disk--Use the DOS batch file
SETUP.BAT, included with this package, to automatically install
the files in the C:\LTRHEAD and WP/Win macro directories. See
page 7 for installation help.
2) Try out the macros. (There are instructions for running macros
on page 13.) Begin by loading the LTRHEAD button bar, running the
LETTER macro; then clear the screen and run BILL to create an
invoice, type some amounts in the invoice and total it with
WordPerfect's RECALC macro, and add a payment graphic to it with
the PAYME macro. Print a sample, and adjust your print graphics
quality if needed (see page 19).
3) Browse thorough the other sample letterhead files, which have
filenames with the "LET" extension.
4) Rename LETTER-W.FRM to LETTER.OLD.
5) Edit the sample that you have chosen, substituting your own
graphic if you wish, and editing the equation text as needed. The
sample letterheads were designed to print on any printer, so the
fonts are usually smaller than may fit on some pages. The text
sizes can be enlarged or reduced to suit your needs. (Equation
Editor hints are on page 17.) Or if you are using Windows 3.1 and
a TrueType font driver, delete the equations and replace them
with scaled text. Save the file as LETTER-W.FRM, in the
C:\LTRHEAD directory.
6) Edit, if desired, BILL.FRM and FAX.FRM to customize your
invoice and fax cover sheet formats. DO NOT include the
letterhead as a part of these forms; they should contain only the
All Rights Reserved (C) Copyright 1992 Jerry Stern
L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( Windows ) V. 2.1 11
ADDITIONAL formatting and text required for these special
formats. Suggestions: Add a "Pages Attached" area to the fax, or
"Payment Received" to the bill.
7) Print a sample. Be sure to test the forms by retrieving them
with the matching macro, and adding text before printing. You may
need to add a hard return or three at the end of your letterhead
to position the start of the text correctly.
Upgrading from The Letterhead Kit/Windows 2.0
---------------------------------------------
Version 2.1 of The Letterhead Kit/Windows can install directly
over version 2.0. Your letterhead and forms will not be
overwritten. Use the new version as you did 2.0. Here are the
differences between 2.0 and 2.1:
In version 2.0 of The Letterhead Kit/Windows, a macro called
RECALC was provided to update any formulas in tables. WordPerfect
Corporation has added a macro of the same name to the 4/92
interim release of WP/WIN 5.1, and to 5.2, so RECALC.WCM is no
longer a part of The Letterhead Kit. The macro provided by WP
Corp. provides the same functions.
The Letterhead Kit/Windows 2.1 now supports WP/WIN 5.2 in
addition to WP/Win 5.1 (4/92 release or newer). Those users who
wish to use a different directory than c:\ltrhead for their
letterheads and forms no longer need to edit macros--there is a
new configuration file, created by the SETUP batch file, that
keeps track of the file locations.
For those users who choose to use a scanned signature, it is now
possible to adjust the printed size of the signature. See page 15
for instructions.
Interim Releases
-----------------
Writing software in a macro language is like controlling a
rowboat by towing it from a distance of five parsecs. The
Letterhead Kit for Windows should work with all future
releases of WP/WIN 5.*. BUT, sometimes new "features"
disable old features, as they did in the DOS 3/9/92 change
to the list files options. When this happens, try turning
"off" the new features if the macros don't seem to like the
new release. When in doubt, write for support--there will be
either a fix or a new release, as needed, to fix any
problems caused by new features.

L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( Windows ) V. 2.1 12
USING A PRE-PRINTED LETTERHEAD
------------------------------
If your letterhead is already printed, you can still use The
Letterhead Kit macros to help you use it. When you create your
own version of the LETTER-W.FRM, place only these codes in it, in
the order below.
1) If you are using a printer with multiple bins, begin the
document with a Paper Size code that will tell WordPerfect which
bin to find your printed letterhead in. Next, press Tab, and
Shift-Tab (margin release), and add a second Paper Size code for
a standard blank page. If you are using a Windows printer driver
in WP/WIN 5.1, no bin options are available.
2) Add a header or footer or page numbering code and a first page
suppress code to keep the headers and page numbers from
overprinting your letterhead.
3) (REQUIRED) An advance to position code. (Choose Layout,
Advance, To Position, and type the starting point on the page
where the first line of text may be printed.)
SAVING A GRAPHIC TO FILE FROM A DOCUMENT
----------------------------------------
Each of the sample letterheads included with The Letterhead Kit
for DOS, The Letterhead Kit for Windows, and each of their bonus
disks contains a graphic from the Wood Clips Clip Art
Collections. Between the forms LETTER-D.FRM and LETTER-W.FRM, and
the SAMPLE__.LET forms from both packages and their bonus disks,
there are 22 different graphics stored within the forms. (The
bonus letterheads for the DOS and Windows versions of The
Letterhead Kit are different from each other, but each sample is
usable in both packages.)
You can save a graphic that is inside a document, so that you can
use it elsewhere. First, open the document normally. Next,
double-click on the graphic to enter the Figure: Editor screen.
Choose File, Save As, type a file name, using a .WPG extension,
and press (Enter). WordPerfect will save the image to a graphic
file. Click on Close to return to the document screen.

RUNNING THE MACROS
==================
Once the macros have been installed in WP/Win's macro directory,
they may be run in several different ways. The easiest methods
are the Button Bar and the Macro Menu, in (1) and (2):
1) You may run macros from the Button Bar, once they have been
installed. To choose the LTRHEAD button bar, which already has
all The Letterhead Kit for Windows macros installed, choose View
from the menu, choose Button Bar Setup, Select, and double-click
on LTRHEAD.WWB. The menu bar will appear, showing options for
each macro. A macro may be run from the Button Bar by clicking
the button marked with the macro or feature needed.
2) You may add the Letterhead macros to the Macro menu, by
playing the HELP! macro. Click OK on the first screen; a dialog
box will appear, explaining what the macro will do. Click OK to
install the macros on the menu. A macro may be run from the macro
menu by clicking on Macro, and then clicking on the macro
description that appears at the bottom of the pull-down menu.
Up to nine macros may be run from the Macro menu. If more than
two macros are already in place on the menu, then not all of the
letterhead macros will be added. If this applies to your system,
you may remove any extra macros (before running HELP!.WCM) by
choosing Macro, Assign to Menu, highlighting each macro you would
like to delete, and clicking on Delete. Click OK when you have
finished, and then run HELP!.WCM to add the letterhead macros.
3) You may choose Macro from the menu bar, select Play, click on
the macro you would like to start, and click the Play button. You
may need to scroll down the list to find your macro, and you may
double-click on the macro name to start the macro without using
the Play button.
4) You may use the shortcut key for playing a macro. (This
shortcut is the same for users of BOTH the CUA keyboard and the
WP5.1/DOS keyboard.) Press Alt-F10, type the macro name, and
press (Enter).
5) You may assign individual macros to nearly any key. See the
WordPerfect for Windows Reference manual, in the section
"Keyboard Layout: Edit," for instructions.

HELP!
-----
The HELP! macro provides two functions. First, it displays a
quick reference window describing what each macro in The
Letterhead Kit does. Second, it adds The Letterhead Kit macros to
the WP pull-down macro menu.
To just look at the quick reference display, run HELP!, and click
on CANCEL when done. To add the macros to the pull-down menu,
click on OK in both dialog boxes. Only nine macros will fit on
the pull-down menu, and the new ones will be added at the bottom
of the list. If there are already more than two macros on your
menu, not all of the new ones will fit--this will not cause an
error, but any macros beyond the ninth will not be added to the
menu.
LETTER
------
When you run the LETTER macro, no matter which of the methods you
have chosen for running the macro, the results will be the same.
From an empty document, LETTER will retrieve the letterhead, add
the date as text at the bottom of the form, and place the cursor
in the proper position for you to begin typing your letter. If
the document is not empty, LETTER will automatically position the
letterhead and date above the existing text.
The FAX macro will also position existing text AFTER the form,
but the BILL macro will position old text after the letterhead
and date, but BEFORE the invoice box.
FAX
---
The custom letterhead may be used as a fax transmittal form. The
macro FAX automatically retrieves both the letterhead and the fax
transmittal. When the macro ends, the cursor will be in the "To:"
line of the Fax address block. Type the name and address or fax
telephone number, and end each line by pressing (Enter). The
cursor will jump to the next line of the form only after pressing
(Enter)--WordPerfect's automatic line wrap feature has been
turned off inside the table used to create the fax form.
BILL
----
The custom letterhead may be used on an invoice. The macro BILL
automatically retrieves both the letterhead and the invoice. When
the macro ends, the cursor will be in the first box at the top of

L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( Windows ) V. 2.1 15
the date column. The date above the table will already contain
the current date. End each line by pressing (Enter). The cursor
will jump to the next line of the form only after pressing
(Enter)--WordPerfect's automatic line wrap feature has been
turned off inside the table used to create the invoice.
You may change the length of the invoice table very easily. If
you are using the LTRHEAD Button Bar, position the insertion
point anywhere within the table and click on TblOpts. The Table
Options dialog box will appear. (If the insertion point is
outside the table area, the TblOpts button will be shaded and
unavailable.) If you are not using the LTRHEAD Button Bar, you
may position the insertion point within the table, choose Layout,
Tables, and Options to display the Table Options box.
In the Table Options dialog box, press Tab once to skip to the
Rows box, and type in the new number of rows you would like in
the table, including two rows for the title and column headings
rows, and press Enter.
PAYME, SHIPME and LABELME
-------------------------
The macro PAYME is used to add graphics to the invoice, or any
other document. These graphics are similar to the expensive
labels available for collecting overdue accounts. SHIPME adds
messages such as "Rush!" or "Next Day Air!" or "Magnetic Media--
Do Not Bend!" LABELME adds general office messages, like
"Confidential" or "OK to pay" or "Draft." A complete printed
index of all thirty message graphics is sent to all registered
users of The Letterhead Kit.
To add a message graphic to a document, start the PAYME, SHIPME,
or LABELME macro. A list of the messages available will appear on
the screen. Select the graphic by highlighting the matching text
line, and then press Enter or click on OK to add the graphic at
the current insertion point.
SIGN
----
The SIGN macro adds the graphic named AUTOGRPH.WPG to the current
document at the insertion point. The sample AUTOGRPH.WPG file
included with The Letterhead Kit is of the most famous signature
available--"made large so that the King can read it without his
spectacles." You will probably choose to substitute your own
scanned signature.

L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( Windows ) V. 2.1 16
NEW in version 2.1: If your scanned signature does not print in
the correct size, you may change it easily. On the second line of
the SIGN.WCM macro, there is an Assign statement for the variable
"big." To change the size of the signature, open the file
normally, and change the text 1.0" to the size that you choose.
You may use whatever measurement unit you have chosen as your
default, whether inches, centimeters, or points, but it is a good
idea to include the unit character in the size. For example, to
set the signature to a height of two centimeters, change the
"big" value to "2c" or "2.0c". Resave the file under its original
name by choosing File, Close, and then choosing Yes at the save
prompt.
The first time you run a macro that has been edited, WordPerfect
will automatically compile it. This will add several seconds to
the waiting time while the Macro Facility runs. After the first
run, the macro will run at its normal speed.
After compiling the macro, edit the button bar "ltrhead.wwb" to
include the updated versions of the macro. As shipped, the
letterhead button bar does not use the "macro on disk" feature to
save disk space, because that feature can cause a problem when
the button bar is used on different systems, with the macros in
different locations. However, when you edit the button bar, you
may use that option if you prefer.
To edit the button bar, choose View, Button Bar Setup, Edit. For
each macro that has been edited, drag the macro button off the
bar, click on "Assign Macro to Button..." and choose the edited
version of the macro. It should appear at the extreme right of
the bar--drag it to the spot on the bar where the original macro
was located. When you have finished making changes, click on OK
to store the edited button bar.
If the message "Macro is Not Current" appears when you try to add
a button, then you have not compiled the macro. Cancel out of the
button bar edit, run the macro normally, and then try again.
SCANNED LOGOS: Registered users may also choose to have their
logo or signature scanned at 400 dots per inch and converted to
WPG format. Enclose $5.00 additional for each logo version to be
prepared.
IMPORTANT: Include a clean copy of your logo, preferably
shipped as a sandwich between two index cards. Use a
non-textured white paper. Signatures scan best when created
with a fine-tip black pen.

EDITING EQUATIONS AS TEXT
=========================
Nearly all letterheads will benefit from the use of a reasonably
oversized typeface. Users of Windows 3.1 can use scalable
TrueType fonts for large text, users of the ATM software included
with WP/WIN 5.2 can use Adobe fonts, and many users of Windows
3.0 may be able to use a scalable printer font or a third-party
font package to provide the needed typeface. But for users of
Windows 3.0 who have no other way to create a large typeface, or
for ALL users who choose to use a WordPerfect printer driver,
WordPerfect for Windows can print large print in two additional
ways: The typeface may be imported as a graphic from DrawPerfect
or WP Presentations, which works reasonably well, or the typeface
may be created in the Equation Editor, which can print any text
needed in any size. The sample letterheads provided with The
Letterhead Kit for Windows use the Equation Editor to provide
large text.
In most ways, using the Equation Editor to provide text for a
letterhead, or for a newsletter headline, is no different than
using it for mathematics. However, the tips below should help
adapt the editor to our more mundane uses.
1) To edit an equation, point at it with the mouse pointer, and
double-click to enter the Equation Editor. In the top box, edit
the text as you would edit normal text.
Changes that you make will not show in the equation display box
until you click Redisplay on the Button Bar to redraw the
equation. When you are finished making changes, click Close to
return to the document screen.
For more help, enter the Equation Editor as above, and then press
Help (F1).
2) The Equation Editor, by default, uses italics for everything.
To print any text in a normal typeface, enclose the text in
brackets, and place "func" before it, like this:
func{This text will print in a normal typeface.}
3) Spaces between words will not appear as spaces in the
equation. The example above will print as "Thistextwillprint..."
Replace all full size spaces with tildes, like this:
func{This~text~will~be~properly~spaced.}
4) Half-size spaces are available. Some spaces using the tilde
will be too large, so replace tildes as needed with the reverse
single quote:
func{1234`Half`Spaced~Avenue}
All Rights Reserved (C) Copyright 1992 Jerry Stern
L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( Windows ) V. 2.1 18
5) Some words represent mathematical commands or symbols, and
will not normally print as text. Any word listed in the left-side
box on the Equation Editor screen has a symbol attached, but here
are the words and characters most likely to cause problems in
normal text:
and not or to from over # &
Precede those words with a reverse backslash to tell the Equation
Editor to print the word instead of the symbol.
"Wilma & Betty's Over & Under Weavers, Inc." would become:
func{Wilma~\&~Betty's~\Over~\&~Under~Weavers,~Inc.}
6) The size of text is set by choosing File, Settings to reach
the Equation Settings dialog box, and typing the size in points
in the box under "Graphic Font Size." Click OK or press Enter to
return to the Equation Editor. One point equals 1/72" of an inch,
and normal text ranges from 10 to 12 points. Try using 18 to 24
point text as a starting point for your letterhead.
Normally, all the text within the equation will use the same
point size. However, the new SCALESYM command will allow portions
of an equation to be made larger or smaller. This command is
available in WordPerfect for Windows and in WordPerfect for DOS
releases dated 12/31/90 and later. (If you choose to use the
SCALESYM command in WP/Win, your letterhead will not convert
properly to older versions of WP/DOS.) Here is the description of
the new command, from the WordPerfect Corp. Enhancements disk:
Equations, Command Syntax (12/31/90)
The SCALESYM command has been added to the Equation
Editor. The syntax is SCALESYM n symbol, where n is the
percentage of the normal size of the symbol. For
example, to make the integral sign 300% larger, type
SCALESYM 300 int.

TROUBLE-SHOOTER'S GUIDE
=======================
These hints and explanations should not be needed for using the
letterhead, blank forms, macros, and payment graphics, but
browsing through them may save you time and improve your results.
ERROR MESSAGE APPEARS
---------------------
"The execution is being canceled because of a "Not Found"
condition."
Check the location of the files copied from the distribution
disk. The .WCM and .WWB files must be in the macro directory, as
well as a file named LTRHEAD.CFG, containing the name of the
directory holding the forms and message graphics. See the details
beginning on page 7.
PAYMENT GRAPHICS PRINT BADLY
----------------------------
Check the Document Setting/Graphics Quality setting in the print
dialog box, and set it to High.
FORMS PRINT VERY SLOWLY
-----------------------
Some combinations of equipment print very slowly. In particular,
Windows 3.0 running on a 80286 computer, combined with a nine-pin
dot matrix printer, will become lethargic when printing tables.
Graphics slow down the process even more. However, nearly all of
the payment graphics in this package were created in vector
format with DrawPerfect 1.1. These graphics print more quickly
than any other type of artwork, and deleting the payment graphic
from an invoice will save very little printing time.
FOR FASTER PRINTING, TRY:
-------------------------
When using a Windows printer driver, upgrade to Windows 3.1,
which prints far more quickly than Windows 3.0. Once you have
upgraded, use TrueType fonts, which are faster than any third-
party add-on font packages. (If you add fonts to Windows 3.1, add
only TrueType. There are several good font translation utility
programs available.)
All Rights Reserved (C) Copyright 1992 Jerry Stern
L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( Windows ) V. 2.1 20
If using WP/WIN 5.1, upgrade to 5.2. The initial release of
WordPerfect for Windows 5.2 is already faster than any interim
version of 5.1.
If you have at least four megabytes of memory available, add a
ram drive to your system, and divert all the temporary printing
files to it, by adding a SET TEMP=f:, to your AUTOEXEC.BAT, where
f: is the ram drive. (Look up RAMDRIVE.SYS and the SET command in
any good DOS or Windows reference.)
If you must use Windows 3.0, use a WordPerfect printer driver in
preference to the Windows variety.
THE GRAPHICS TEXT DOES NOT PRINT IN THE CORRECT FONT
----------------------------------------------------
If the graphic was created using DrawPerfect 1.1, the font used
by DrawPerfect must be present in the WP.DRS file in the
WordPerfect program directory. The original DRS file that ships
with WordPerfect supports only Courier (typewriter), Helvetica
(no serifs), and Roman (with serifs). The largest WP.DRS file is
the version used by DrawPerfect 1,1, which supports many
additional fonts. If you have are a registered user of The
Letterhead Kit, and would like to use a decorative font in your
letterhead, contact Science Translations for assistance. For more
information on DRS files, see page 21.
WP/WIN REDRAWS THE FAX AND BILL TABLES SEVERAL TIMES
----------------------------------------------------
This is the result of trying to create a table, with lines that
are really graphics, and fill it with text, and then display it
in a graphical environment. First, upgrade to 5.2. The newer
version of WP/WIN still will do this, but nowhere near as often.
Second, if the redrawing is still annoying, switch to Draft Mode,
available on the View menu.

DRIVER RESOURCE FILES, SPECIAL CHARACTERS, AND DRAWPERFECT
==========================================================
WordPerfect uses the WP.DRS file to print special characters, but
there are four different driver resource files available, each
with a different purpose, and each of these will change the
printed results of fonts created graphically by WordPerfect.
These fonts include special characters, equations, and graphics
created in DrawPerfect that include text. Which DRS file should
you use? Most users will be satisfied with the default DRS file,
but users of laptops, DrawPerfect, or foreign language modules
may wish to change to another DRS file.
WP.DRS--Shipped with WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS and Windows
--------------------------------------------------------
The WP.DRS file that ships with WordPerfect 5.1 contains font
information for creating the most-used characters in Courier,
Helvetica, and Times Roman. Hebrew, Cyrillic, and some letters in
other character sets will print as simple stick figures, but most
other characters will print nicely.
WPSMALL.DRS--Shipped with WordPerfect 5.1
-----------------------------------------
WPSMALL.DRS is used automatically by WordPerfect if it cannot
find WP.DRS. This small driver resource file is usually used on
laptops or other computers that must run WordPerfect from floppy
disks. The file contains the basic character shapes needed to
print special characters, equations, and DrawPerfect graphics,
but every character will print in the same font, Courier Simplex,
an extremely plain version of Courier that is built as a set of
vectors, or thin lines.
International Expanded DRS File--Shipped with Language Modules,
or Available from WordPerfect Sales
---------------------------------------------------------------
The International driver resource file contains only the font
information to match Courier, Helvetica, and Times Roman fonts,
but all the characters, except those in set eleven (Hiragana and
Katakana), will print as normal, fully-fleshed-out fonts.
All Rights Reserved (C) Copyright 1992 Jerry Stern
L E T T E R H E A D K I T ( Windows ) V. 2.1 22
WP.DRS--Shipped with DrawPerfect 1.1
------------------------------------
The WP.DRS file that is provided with DrawPerfect is much larger
than either of WordPerfect's standard driver resource files, and
it contains character shapes for all the fonts supported by
DrawPerfect. However, many international characters will still
print as stick figures.
If you create a graphic in DrawPerfect that uses a fancy font,
and then bring that graphic into WordPerfect as a WPG file, the
font that WordPerfect uses for the graphic text will be the font
most similar to the original font. For example, Old English text
will print as Times Roman if the WordPerfect standard DRS file or
International DRS file is in use, as Courier Simplex when using
WPSMALL.DRS, or as Old English when the DrawPerfect DRS file is
in use. DrawPerfect users can prevent this problem by copying the
WP.DRS file from their DrawPerfect directory into the directory
containing the WordPerfect program (usually the WPC directory),
after renaming the original WP.DRS file to WP-DRS.OLD for
safekeeping.
